Keep an eye on your hamster while he’s using the ball. Sometimes the ball will get stuck under or next to something and will need to be moved by hand.

For a hamster in good condition, 15-30 minutes is long enough to spend in the hamster ball. You can judge from watching- if he stops running for a while and the ball is not stuck, that’s a good indication your hamster has had enough.

When you put the hamster back in the cage, check the ball to make sure he hasn’t left you a surprise (droppings). It’s common for animals to pee a little when excited or nervous, and being moved from cage to hamster ball can be enough to make that happen. If so, rinse it well and let dry thoroughly before using again.
